Maternity leave contract position at Downtown Cornwall law firm

Small law firm located in Downtown Cornwall requires full-time family law/criminal & civil litigation legal assistant/clerk for thirteen month maternity leave contract position commencing in late September or early October, 2015.

One of the members of the Allinotte Law Office Professional Corporation team is adding to her team, so we are looking for someone to add to our team for a twelve month contract position.

Because we are a small but growing firm who takes pride in providing outstanding client service, the selection of a new team member is of the utmost of importance to us. We offer a casual, yet professional work environment and flexible working arrangements and compensation packages and benefits.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following requirements:

• completion of a law clerk/legal assistant/paralegal college program
• a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a law firm environment
• an ability to multitask efficiently
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• strong organizational skills
• an ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines
• a professional and friendly demeanor
• problem solving skills
• an ability to work with minimal supervision
• a positive attitude
• experience with PC Law, Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and Do Process software (DivorceMate, Conveyancer, etc.).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Faxing, scanning, photocopying, binding documents
• Attending at the court house to file documents
• Electronic file management as well as hard copy
• Open and close files, act as general client intake for family/criminal/civil matters, book consultations, enter new or amended client information into software programs
• Client letters, follow up, client service and client maintenance and general file management
• Telephone answering and telephone intake
• Interview clients to collect information and complete documents
• Prepare and review legal documents, affidavits, financial statements, support calculations
• Some legal research
• Calendar and schedule management for supervising lawyer
• Billing and accounting (including Legal Aid billing and docketing)
• Diarizing deadlines and following up on daily tasks and reminders
• Deal directly with opposing lawyers, law office staff and court house staff

Bilingualism is an asset. Some training will be provided but a candidate with experience is preferred. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
