Full-time real estate and estate planning legal assistant required for Downtown Cornwall law firm

We are growing again! This is a newly created position.

Small law firm located in Downtown Cornwall requires real estate and estate planning legal assistant/clerk for a permanent full-time position.

Because we are a small, yet growing firm who takes pride in providing outstanding client service, the selection of a new team member is of the utmost of importance to us. We offer a casual, yet professional work environment and flexible working arrangements and compensation packages and benefits.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following requirements:

• completion of a law clerk/legal assistant/paralegal college program
• a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a law firm environment (ideally involving real estate work)
• an ability to multitask efficiently
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• strong organizational skills
• an ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines
• a professional and friendly demeanor
• problem solving skills
• an ability to work with minimal supervision
• a positive attitude
• experience with PC Law, Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and Do Process software (Conveyancer, etc.), Teranet

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Faxing, scanning, photocopying, preparing documents
• Electronic file management as well as hard copy
• Open and close files, act as general client intake for real estate and estate planning matters, book consultations, enter new or amended client information into software programs
• Client letters, follow up, client service and client maintenance, including general file maintenance
• Telephone answering and telephone intake
• Interviews with clients to collect information and prepare documents
• Reviewing documents
• Ordering and reviewing title searches and other searches
• Drafting letters and documents and reviewing same
• Ordering title insurance policies
• Requesting information from various agencies
• Draft estate planning documents
• Act as witness for will, trust and Power of Attorney signing
• Calendar and schedule management for supervising lawyer
• Diarizing deadlines and following up with daily tasks and reminders

Bilingualism is an asset. Some training will be provided but a candidate with experience is preferred. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
